David G. Walton Sr, 92, passed away December 19, 2016. He grew up in Pittsburgh, PA, where he was in the stands for both Babe Ruth’s last home run and Bill Mazeroski’s classic 9th inning World Series winning homer. His attendance at Case Western was interrupted by service in the US Army in World War II. Stationed at Butler University for training, he met a young student named Patricia Eckhart. After his deployment to Europe, including participation in the Battle of the Bulge, he returned home, married Pat, completed his engineering degree, and settled in Carmel. He and Pat celebrated 67 years of marriage before her passing this year.
Dave’s career as a Professional Engineer included stints at Rotz Engineering, James & Associates, and BSA Architects. He and Pat were founding members of Orchard Park Presbyterian Church, during the early years of which he could be counted on to keep the boiler in repair and to keep the landscaping in order. During retirement, he and Pat traveled extensively, in Europe and throughout the U.S. They both valued the many friendships they made with fellow travelers on Top Notch Tours over the years.
Dave is survived by his son, David (Debbie); his daughter, Nancy (George) Ohmer; grandchildren Nicholas Ohmer (Shannon Kenney); Kate Walton (Kit Hamada); Toby (Lindsay) Ohmer; Sara (Jeff) Govier; and Whitney Ohmer (Brandon Styles); and greatgrandchildren Lily Govier, Marley Ohmer and Charlotte Govier. In addition to Patricia, he was predeceased by his parents, Alan and Helen Walton, and his siblings Richard and Stanley Walton and Beverly Startzell.
A calling will be held at Orchard Park Presbyterian Church, 1605 E. 106th St., Indianapolis, on Friday, December 23, 2016, at 10 a.m., with a service to follow at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Orchard Park Presbyterian Church.
